Access Specialist (Patient Access Services)

Job Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY:  

Collects, analyzes and records demographic, insurance/financial and clinical data accurately from multiple sources and obtains other information and signatures necessary for scheduling, registration and billing.

Screens effectively for compliance with payor requirements for medical necessity and pre-certification and completes third party eligibility and benefit verification to ensure accurate payment is secured.

Interacts in a customer focused and compassionate manner to ensure patients and their representatives’ needs are met and they understand hospital’s revenue cycle expectations, including resolution of personal liabilities through various payment options.

Coordinates all inpatient/outpatient scheduling of procedures, tests, pre- admit test.  Obtain pre-admission information according to established policies and procedures.  Determine medical necessity where appropriate. Determines need for pre-certification and obtains from physician offices when necessary.

EDUCATION – High school education or equivalent with specialized knowledge obtained through high school or up to six months’ vocational education required. Ability to read, understand written and verbal instructions and interpret medical technology.   Ability to operate various office machines, computer and software packages required.  Good keyboarding skills required.  Complies with all missions, values and regulatory compliance requirements. EDUCATION – High school education required.  Must have minimum one year experience in healthcare setting, preferably in a clinic setting.  Specialized technical training of one to two years preferred.  CPR certification required.

Responsible for the planning, coordinating, providing and documenting for terminally ill patients fro the day of admission through the day of discharge.  Develops and implements a hospice plan that meets each patient’s specific needs and is in compliance with JC, federal and state regulations, reimbursement guidelines as well as CVMC’s policies and procedures.

EDUCATION – Associate degree from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed by State of Alabama.  Must possess a current Alabama driver’s license and proof of automobile liability insurance.

EXPERIENCE – One year previous nursing experience required.  Hospice experience preferred.

Directs and supervises operations of the Environmental Services Department.  Ensuring facility is cleaned in a quality manner based on current infection control guidelines.  Furthermore ensures that the delivery of these services is done in an efficient and professional manner.

EDUCATION:  Must have high school diploma or equivalent.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.      

EXPERIENCE – Minimum three years’ experience in a housekeeping related role, direct healthcare experience preferred.  Minimum two years’ in a supervisory role.

Manager, Cafe Operations (Food and Nutrition Department)

GENERAL SUMMARY:  

Coordinates and implements Café services to support guest services/satisfaction and sanitation.  Oversees cash sales of the Food Service department.  Oversees set up for special events, catering functions, etc. that are served by the Food Service Dept.  Assures clean up after functions.  Reports to the Food Service Director

EDUCATION – High school graduate or equivalent with additional course work.  Associate degree in Management or Dietary Management certification preferred.  Serv-Safe or other Sanitation certification preferred.    

EXPERIENCE – Two to three years prior experience in food service restaurant/hospital as a supervisor preferred if above educational requirements are not met.


Manager, Patient Care Delivery System (Food and Nutrition Department)

EXPERIENCE – Six to twelve months experience as a hospital cook or similar position.


Certified Nursing Assistant (Senior Behavioral Unit)

Full-time Position; 7p-7a

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Certified Nurse Assistant performs selected patient care activities.  The Certified Nurse Assistant is a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team and provides various patient care activities and non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of the patient.  Must be capable of physically assisting patients, dealing with patient emergencies, and working as a member of a clinical team.

EDUCATION – Must be Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing on State of Alabama Registry; BCLS Certification.  High school diploma or equivalent required.    

EXPERIENCE – One to three years experience in related field.  Must posses organizational, verbal, interpersonal, and customer relations skills required in order to interact with resident, family, physicians and staff.  Must have analytical, grammar/spelling, and computer skills.  Must also be able to read and comprehend both written and verbal instruction.


Respiratory Therapist (Respiratory)

Full-time Position; 7p-7a

Administer more complex respiratory therapy procedures to general and critical care patients under minimal supervision and according to established department policies, procedures and standards.  Makes assessment of patients’ respiratory status, administers prescribed therapies and monitors patient response to such therapies.  May oversee and direct work of lower classified personnel and assists in training and orientation of new Respiratory Therapist or students as requested.

EDUCATION – Requires knowledge of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pulmonary physics, pulmonary patho physiology, advanced respiratory care, mathematics, blood gas chemistry and pharmacology at a level generally acquired through completion of a two year AMA approved program in Respiratory Therapy.  Must have passed certified (CRT) and be licensed by Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy.

EXPERIENCE – Approximately six to twelve months’ of progressively more responsible related work experience necessary to gain a complete understanding of respiratory therapy principles and procedures in order to provide assistance in resolution of difficult work related problems, orient and train new employees and provide technical advice on performing therapies.  Analytical ability necessary to review and evaluate various laboratory results, conduct respiratory assessments, and properly operate technical respiratory equipment.  Interpersonal skills necessary to explain therapy and goals to patients and family members and to communicate effectively with nursing personnel, physicians and other hospital personnel.




Dietary Assistant (Food and Nutrition Department)

Full-time Position; 5a-2p                                                                  

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs various tasks related to assembly and distribution of patient meals and nourishment; cleaning and sanitation; handling and storing foods and supplies; collects and disposes of trash and garbage.

EDUCATION – High school education or equivalent.  Requires understand/transmit detailed instructions and performing simple arithmetic calculations.

Imaging Technologist/CT Technologist

Full-time Position; M-F 10p-6a S-S 6p-6a ,7/7                                                                  

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Operates fixed and portable fluoroscopic or conventional radiographs equipment to obtain routine radiographs.  Assist physicians in examinations by mixing and preparing contrast media, assisting in sterile procedures, etc.  In addition to general radiology, at times may also perform CT.

EDUCATION – Knowledge of diagnostic radiology principles and procedures as well as operation and maintenance of radiologic equipment as normally acquired through completion of two years post high school training in an approved school of radiologic technology.  American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(R) must be acquired within 90 days of hire date.

EXPERIENCE – Up to twenty-four months experience necessary in order to gain familiarity with hospital environment and department routine, polices and procedures in diagnostic radiology and any specialty areas.  Formal education in specialty areas would be accepted in lieu of experience.

Pt Care Sec/Monitor Tech

Full-time Position; 3p-11p ,7/7  

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Observes patient’s heart rhythm on monitors and reports significant changes or abnormal patterns of heart rhythm to nurse.  Patient Care Secretary functions under direction of Nurse Manager/designee and assists in maintaining a smooth functioning unit. Lead technician assists unit management with education and training of all new and existing monitor technician/ unit secretaries and coordinates scheduling of key unit activities.

EDUCATION – Job related course work after high school of up to 12 months in specific area such as word processing with typing of 20 wpm. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.  Ability to interpret rhythm strips (EKGs) to be acquired during free time participation in brief vocational education program.

EXPERIENCE – Work requires up to six months on-the-job training to acquire necessary familiarity with department policies, procedures and forms.  Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to effectively and cordially interact with patients and families.  Must be able to

accurately and effectively perform basic entry on CRT.
